Paul Cummings is a songwriter, storyteller, and volunteer firefighter from Western New York, whose work celebrates service, resilience, and the spirit of small-town America. His music blends country, Americana, and heartfelt storytelling, rooted in real experiences from both the firehouse and the open road.
Paul’s journey as a musician began long before the spotlight. What started as a way to put feelings into words evolved into a mission to honor the people who serve others every day. In 2009, his original “The Firefighter Song” went viral, resonating deeply with firefighters, first responders, and families across the country. The song’s unexpected success led to the creation of The American Firehouse Tour, which ran from 2010 through 2014. During that time, Paul toured firehouses across the United States (from coast to coast) performing for volunteer and career departments alike, helping raise awareness and funds for local stations, and strengthening the bond between firefighters and their communities.
Over the years, Paul has performed everywhere from small-town dive bars to festival stages in front of crowds of more than 15,000 people. His career has included opening performances for national country acts such as Phil Vassar, Rodney Atkins, Gretchen Wilson, Kellie Pickler, Jon Pardi, Tyler Farr, and many others. While those opportunities gave him national exposure, Paul’s heart has always remained close to home—writing and performing songs that carry purpose, pride, and authenticity.
Today, Paul serves as Captain of the Bergen Fire Department in Western New York, where his lifelong commitment to the fire service continues to shape his writing and leadership. He is deeply involved in community initiatives, training programs, and mentorship, continuing the same tradition of service that first inspired his music.
Outside of the firehouse and the stage, Paul is a proud husband and father of three. His family remains at the center of everything he does, grounding his work in love, humility, and gratitude. Through The American Firehouse project and his ongoing songwriting, Paul continues to remind people that even in a changing world, duty, faith, and community still define the best of who we are.
