I’ve been working on something for a while now. I’ve gotten used to staying behind the scenes, so putting my face and voice back out there again like this feels a little uncomfortable, but it’s worth it. The conversations need to be had.

It’s all centered around one simple idea: we haven’t told our story well enough.

“The Heart of the Volunteer” is a podcast focused on the real reasons people choose to give their time to something bigger than themselves, and why that still matters today.

This isn’t just about the fire service, but that’s where it starts for me. For those of us who do it, it’s never been about money, and it’s often not what people on the outside think it is.

The goal is to have honest conversations that help people better understand the commitment, the purpose, and ultimately help with recruitment by connecting with people in a more real way.

I’m looking for all kinds of perspectives from firefighters, community members, and even those who question the volunteer model. That part matters too.
