Paul
Cummings, a volunteer firefighter in upstate New
York, wrote a song called The Fire Fighter Song
( see link at bottom of e-mail) after he had responded
to a particular fire few days after his daughter
was born. The fire ended up being fatal and Paul
wrote the song as a way to move himself past what
he had just experienced. The song was never meant
to be heard outside of a select few people, but
it has turned into the Firefighter Anthem nationwide.
One
of the select few that heard The Firefighter
Song, was a firefighter out of Louisiana. In
2009, he flew Paul down to play for a firefighter
appreciation event. With that said, in the past
three years because of his one song, The Fire
Fighter song, he has now played for several
firefighters in different parts of the United
States such as New York, Tennessee, Louisiana,
Pennsylvania ETC. The American Fire House Tour
was slated to be over in 2012, but after his
home-town Rochester, NY had a major tragedy
on Christmas Eve in 2012, he decided to fire
it back up but with different objectives. In
honor of the fallen heroes of the West Webster
Fire Department (WWFD) tragedy, Paul planned
a month’s worth of events called the 30
in 30. The objective was to put on 30 shows
in 30 days, free, for fire departments in and
around the Rochester area, in honor of the fallen
heroes in West Webster. Paul ended up doing
22 shows, for 53 Fire Departments, and raised
over $3000 for the WWFD foundation. Paul’s
song and video were also displayed in front
of President Obama and the First Lady during
the West, TX Memorial.
The
Fire Fighter Song was just re-recorded it in
Nashville (Produced by Buddy Hyatt from the
80’s rock band TOTO) and it will be released
nationwide via radio (terrestrial, internet,
satellite) on May 21st, 2013 followed by a music
video in late June.
This
year The American Fire House Tour has already
scheduled 19 dates around the United States
and there are many motivating and uplifting
objectives of this year’s tour. The American
Fire House Tour is mainly to THANK those who
are often over looked, and to honor those Fallen
Heroes who lost their lives saving others. The
American Fire House Tour would also like to
provide an opportunity to boost morale and provide
low cost entertainment which in turn helps provide
fundraising opportunities to lesser fortunate
departments. Last but not least, one of the
main goals of The American Fire House Tour,
is to introduce, educate the public, and raise
awareness for the fire service. The American
Fire House Tour is a way to show the public
what volunteer firefighting is all about, and
to show them the dangers that their own neighbors
put themselves in front of on a daily basis
without hesitation.
